Until recently I struggled just like you. Emotionally overeating had me gain and lose the same 40 pounds since childhood.
And it's not like I didn't know a reasonable amount about psychology. After getting a psychology degree and counselling training, I worked in psychiatric support before moving into exploring motivation as a qualitative researcher within marketing.
I spent over 25 years of uncovering people's underlying driving motivations in literally thousands of hours in depth interviews and group discussions. My expertise was as a motivational expert, uncovering the psychological triggers to drive consumption. So I had the behind the scenes view of how our over marketedculture has become obesogenic (meaning: makes you fat!) so I know it's not our fault but a problem with a society that sells food as the solution to emotional problems. Even knowing this, I still struggled with weight and emotional overeating.
It wasn't until I found Life Coaching where I learned the simple strategies to deal with the conscious and subconscious drivers to unwanted behaviours. that I finally lost the weight for good. I am now a certified coach with the Life Coach School helping others do the same.
